In this class, Jeremy Gavron considers the question of how much information to include in a work of fiction, looking at choices made by a several contemporary writers. Gavron compares the richness of the opening pages of Jonathan Franzen’s The Corrections to the relative sparseness of Amoz Oz’s The Same Sea and Damon Galgut’s In a Strange Room and pays particular attention to how each writer subtly varies his approach.
